DIETARY RESOURCES
There is no doubt that our dog’s diet plays a huge role in their physical health, but many people don’t realize that it also plays a huge role in our dogs mental and emotional health- Just like us! If our diet is filled with overly processed foods on a consistent basis it can negatively effect our gut health, which then negatively effects our hormone production. Hormones are what drives our emotions, and our emotions drive our behavior. When we are able to cut out the sugars, food dyes, and overly processed low quality foods, we feel better physically and mentally.
Some of the worst dog food on the market is sold at the vet’s office believe it or not! Check out this article on prescription dog food . The vets interviewed guessed wrong, can you guess which ingredient list is the prescription diet? Other brands I urge people to stay clear of is anything Purina, Pedigree, or anything else that can be bought in the pet aisle at the super market. All of these foods are super processed, you’ll noticed the first few ingredients are corn, soy or wheat based. Some even have high fructose corn syrup AND corn syrup listed in the first 5-10 ingredients! What the hell is that even doing there!? Then we wonder why our dogs are so hyperactive and unable to settle or calmly exist. A lot of dogs struggle with allergies due to these factors as well, not to mention the overall inflammation that these ingredients cause throughout the entire body. So now we have a dog that is also physically uncomfortable, making it harder to settle and exist.
I believe a raw, biologically correct diet, is the healthiest diet our dog’s can have (the same goes for us humans). If I could personally afford it I would feed 100% raw to my own three dogs, but for some- like me, it can be a lot of money, time and effort. Especially for a multi-dog household. For that reason my go-to kibble is Farmina. I like to add in fresh raw foods when I can like raw eggs, organ meat, and meaty bones. I also like to buy pre-made raw and fresh foods to add in when I can like Viva Raw. For more detailed information on raw feeding, check out Perfectly Rawsome!
